A Tangled Bank

This is a series of drawings and watercolours takes it’s inspiration from Darwin’s “Origin of Species”. At the end of the book he invites the reader to imagine nature as the tangled bank of a stream. In this liminal space you can look deep into the opened earth and see how roots, fungi, worms, birds and insects meet and interact. Watching such places you can use them to “reflect that these elaborate forms, so different from each other and so dependant upon each other in so complex a manner have all been produced by the laws acting around us”. This way of seeing fascinates me. I took up this notion because I want my work to be an invitation to an investigative perception, an invitation to look deep inside and see landscapes as organic living systems.
